Indian cricket won the first three matches of the 2023 World Cup but lost three of the last five ODI matches against Bangladesh. India have registered three impressive wins in the first three matches of the tournament and are also at the top of the points table.
Bangladesh started the tournament with a comfortable win against Afghanistan, but lost their last two matches against England and New Zealand. Team captain Shakib Al Hasan has sustained a minor quadriceps injury but is expected to recover in time for the crucial match against India.
Rohit Sharma’s side have no injury concerns heading into this match and are likely to play with the same squad that defeated Pakistan by seven wickets.

The Indian team comfortably leads the record against Bangladesh in cricket with 50 overs. Rohit Sharma’s side won 31 out of 40 ODI encounters against Shakib Al Hasan’s side, with the latter registering 8 wins, but in 2014, they lost just one match. However, Bangladesh derives some confidence from their recent ODI encounter against India.
Bangladesh defeated India last month in the group stage match of the 2023 Asia Cup, which is the only ODI match played between the two teams this year. Bangladesh also surprised the Indian team in the recent bilateral ODI series in December 2022. Bangladesh have won three of the last five ODI matches against India and will be hoping for a win in the next match as well. India also holds the highest head-to-head record against Bangladesh in the history of ODI World Cups.
Bangladesh famously defeated India in the first match of the 2007 World Cup, but the Men in Blue won the next three matches and dominated the World Cup matches against their neighbors. India last faced Bangladesh in the 2019 World Cup, when they narrowly won with Rohit Sharma’s 100, scoring 28 points while defending 314 points in Birmingham.
