Ravichandran Ashwin is ready for India’s World Cup return against England, knows how

Since the Lucknow ground may favor spinners, India could opt for Ravichandran Ashwin over Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj.

Ravichandran Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin is all set to return to the 2023 Cricket World Cup as the Indian cricket team arrived in Lucknow after a two-day break with a perfect record in five matches. Hardik Pandya will be unavailable for a few matches after the ODI World Cup. And with spinners likely to be preferred in Lucknow, India could opt for Ravichandran Ashwin instead of Mohammed Shami or Mohammed Siraj.

But Rohit Sharma will face a crucial decision on who to keep on the bench for India’s Cricket World Cup match against England on Sunday. Suryakumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami were selected in place of Hardik Pandya for the match between India and New Zealand.

Even though SKY failed miserably thanks to Virat Kohli, Shami made it impossible for the team management to keep him on the bench against the Kiwis as a No. 5 batsman.

Two conditions exist at this moment:

Scenario 1: Spinners acquire no specific aid
SuryaKumar Yadav and Mohammed Shami will each retain to preserve their positions if Hardik Pandya stays unfit.

Scenario 2: Slow Ekana pitch
Mohammed Siraj or Mohammed Shami is changed with the aid of using Ravichandran Ashwin, and SuryaKumar Yadav continues his spot.

Jasprit Bumrah is an obvious choice, but whether India chooses three spinners or a three-seamer will depend on the pitch. India will bring back Ravichandran Ashwin in case the pitches slump a bit. India’s attack will be Siraj Shami Bumrah in particular.

But if Ravichandran Ashwin comes in, who will go? So far, the choice has been easy. If the track surface is prone to spin, Ashwin will replace Shardul Thakur. But Mohammed Shamis Phifer suddenly makes things difficult.

Ravichandran Ashwin

If India needs three spinners, Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid will have to decide who to bench.
The world’s best bowler in One-Day Internationals is Mohammed Siraj, with Mohammed Shami taking five wickets against New Zealand. Making this choice is not easy. However, one of the two will be rejected. Otherwise, India will be a bowling-focused team.

Ravichandran Ashwin has not shown that he is a reliable white-ball batsman as well as a great red-ball batsman. And he says he can only go up to number six for India to play all three seamers.
